 What is "Botox" ?'Botox' is the trade name for Botulinum toxin, which is a natural purified protein that relaxes muscles. Each time we laugh or frown our skin becomes creased. The more we live life to the full, the deeper these lines become. As the years go by, our skin is less able to repair this damage. A very low dose of 'Botox' can be used to combat this effect. Which are the best areas for the cosmetic use of Botox ?The best cosmetic results are obtained around the frown lines between the eyes, worry lines across the forehead, and 'crow's feet' around the outer eye area. Treatments are also available to reduce underarm sweating (axillary hyper hidrosis). Do the effects of the treatment look artificial ?Unlike some surgical facelifts, this kind of treatment is very specific and works only on those muscles that are involved in producing the facial lines that you want to reduce. Other muscles are unaffected and this means that your usual facial expressions remain the same. How long will it take to work ?You may start to notice an effect from 1 to 2 days, however this varies from client to client. The full effect can take up to 2 weeks following treatment. It is at this point that we invite you to a Review Appointment to ensure that you are happy with the results How long will the effects of Botox last ?Duration of effects varies from client to client and depends on the severity of the condition being treated. Most people initially can expect full effect for around 3 months. Experience has shown that clients see longer lasting effects the more treatments they have. When used over a period of time it can prevent the occurrence of new lines. How long will it take ?Administering the treatment only takes minutes, but please allow three quarters of an hour for your initial consultation and treatment planning. Will it hurt ?Very tiny needles are used and only small amounts are administered. As a result any discomfort is usually minimal and short-lived, that is why there is no need for local anaesthesia. Are there any adverse side effects ?'Botox' is safe in expert hands and side effects are rare. Occasionally a transient numbness in the treated area, a temporary headache or small bruising may be experienced. On rare occasions heaviness of the eyebrow or lid may be felt, which lasts only for a few weeks. Botulinum toxin has been used in thousands of patients over the last 20 years. It is made in a controlled laboratory environment, highly purified, and administered in tiny quantities. It has an excellent safety profile. Is there anyone who should not have "Botox" treatment ?Anyone who has a neuromuscular disorder or is on Aminoglycoside antibiotics should not have ' Botox' treatment. We also do not treat women who are pregnant, nursing, or who are trying to become pregnant. Who will be performing the treatments ?Procedures at Fareham Facial Aesthetics are carried out by Dr Ingrid Elliott, BDS, a qualified Dental Surgeon, and a Gold Member of the IAAFA (International Academy of Advanced Facial Aesthetics). How much will it cost ?The cost will vary according to the dosage required, but generally prices are £195 One Area £245 Two Areas £295 Three Areas There is an Initial Consultation Fee for new clients of £20 which is refundable against treatment.
